We are very pleased to announce the expansion of our service to the medical and dental community through the acquisition of Healthcare Practice Consultants, LLC (HPC). The successor to Service Bureau for Doctors, founded in 1930, HPC is believed to be the oldest continuous physician and dental practice management consulting firm in the country. Working with hundreds of physicians and dentists throughout Kentucky and Indiana, HPC provides practice management, tax, and accounting services, helping streamline practices and enhance operational management. Charles K. “Chuck” Thieman, founder and President of HPC, and 5 other employees will join the DMLO team, bringing the total number of employees to 91.
Chuck holds a B.A. degree in accounting from Bellarmine University. He received his J.D. from the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville. In June 1986, Chuck received his CHBC designation, conferred by the Institute of Certified Healthcare Business Consultants, formed in 1975 to establish standards to cover consultants who practice in the healthcare field. He is a member of the National Society of Certified Healthcare Business Consultants, Kentucky Bar Association and the Louisville Bar Association. Chuck has been a speaker for the National Association of Healthcare Consultants, Kentucky Dental Association, University of Louisville School of Dentistry and numerous study clubs. He served on the editorial board of the Dental Practice Advisor publication, and was a contributing author for the ADA Publication, “Practice Growth Through Partnerships, Group Practices and Shared Office Arrangements.”
“Teaming up with DMLO is an ideal move for HPC,” said Chuck. “Together we are better positioned to meet the challenges of the ever-changing healthcare environment.”
Steve Custer and Jeff Calderon, both Directors with significant experience working with healthcare practices, head up the physician services group. Steve served as a consultant with HPC from 2009-2011 providing tax consultation as well as practice startup and transition advice to clients, until joining DMLO. In addition to tax planning & compliance and accounting services, the group will offer oversight in new practice set-up, collections management, personnel training and evaluation, physician compensation arrangements, benchmarking, practice surveys, practice valuation/M&A services, and ongoing consultation.
The acquisition is part of DMLO’s strategic plan to acquire firms that have the ability to strengthen existing niches, similar to the acquisition in 2011 of Weinberg & Associates, a local tax practice. HPC will remain at its current location at 3220 Office Pointe Place in Hurstbourne Springs Professional Center until May 31, at which time they will relocate to the DMLO office on the 11th floor of the ‘flashcube’ building at 9300 Shelbyville Rd. HPC will continue to operate and be known as Healthcare Practice Consultants.
Jennifer Hughes, DMLO President, said “We continue to seek out and embrace opportunities to increase our expertise and presence in industries and service areas we have identified as important to the future of not only our firm, but our region. This is a perfect fit for us and our client base.”
